What's The Deal With Reconstruction?

After the Civil War reconstruction started to happen. they were trying to reconstruct and put the country back together. They tried to connect and make the south closer to the union. Abraham Lincoln started talking about this. Talking about the 13, 14,and 15 amendments. The 13th amendment ended the slavery in the United States. The 14th states that anyone born in the United States is automatically a US citizen. The 15th Amendment states that the African American people are allowed to vote and are equal to the other citizens. These three amendments were not not legally used to protect and defend the old African American slaves.

Media Saves The Beach

I idea that I have is an informational brochure. I know how some brochures can be boring a lot of words

but i think it is possible to make a cool looking brochure that is informational and also not boring.

It would be cool to be able to list all the interesting and powerful information inside of a professional

brochure. I have made brochures in the past but i think if i do a brochure it will be a very cool project.

American Icon Project

Inspiration

Corey Murillo

It was two years ago when it was my grandparent’s fiftieth wedding anniversary, and all my cousins and family members came as we celebrated the event. When they showed a slide show of their life story and it really struck me of how special and thankful I am to have grandparents like them. They care for me and my family all the time. I ask my dad about the history of my grandparents and their life story. When he told me a brief overview of their life story I was shocked because of what they went through in their lives.

My grandparents grew up in two different places in the country of Mexico. My grandma lived in Mazatlan and my grandpa lived in Leon. My grandparents met and moved to Mexicali, Mexico just miles away from the border. When they were young my grandma smoked and drank a little but my grandpa just drank on a normal basis. In the year 1959 that’s when their lives changed and 50 years later so did mine. They found the Lord Jesus Christ and immigrated from Mexicali, Mexico to Lincoln Heights in Los Angeles with 3 kids. Then their lives’ went from bad to good and changed a lot of peoples live, like mine.

After they found the Lord they went to go spread it with other churches around the United States and around the world. And they took all five of their kids and sung songs in Spanish that they made which are stories in the bible. My grandparents were the 2004 it was my family with my grandparents. It was the first time we actually got to go to church and share the bible with them. When they sang I really took it in and their music inspired me. In total there are three generations in the Murillo family. My grandparents were the first, the second was all their kids, and the third was with my sisters, my brother, and my mom and dad. When we went on vacation we did what my grandparents did which shared the word of God. Now it is my responsibility to make a fourth generation with my family.

They showed me never to give up in life and you can do what ever you want in life because in Mark 9:23, And Jesus said to him “All things are possible to him who believes.” My grandparents showed this to me with a huge change in their life and did what they wanted to do. I have set the bar higher for me to do what ever in life I want to accomplish.

American Icons Reflections

1. What I discovered about my writing during this project is that it was just a lot of words on a piece of paper. The order of my writing is good but just making all of my writing sound good, flow and professional was difficult for me.

2. In my writing I used "avoiding -ings." I looked a my paper and edited allmost all of the -ings in my writing. This really helped because when I read it with the -ings it sounded really bad and not as good as it could be. But when I took out all the -ings it really made my writing a lot better.

3. If I had one more draft to do I would look at all the advice that Randy gave us for writing tools and try to use a least one more of those to make my writing better. I would also look at every sentence and make sure it is the best possible sentence I can write.

4. " In the year 1959 that's when their lives changed and 50 years later so did mine."
I think this is a really powerful sentence because when you read it it makes a statement in your mind and when you read the words "so did mine"really changes the way you read the sentence. It also shows how when their lives changed mine did 50 years after them.

Artist Statements & Critiques

Well the feedback that I got in class was good enough to change some of my first draft to make it better. She told me to add maybe some quotes and just some grammar. She also gave me ideas so that I can make my artist sound better and in more depth about my icon.

Artist Statement Draft # 2

It was just about two years ago when it was my grandparent’s fiftieth wedding anniversary. All my cousins and family came as we celebrated the event. They were showing a slide show of their life story and it really struck me of how inspirational my grandparents are to me. I have been asking my dad about the history of them and their life story and now it has all connected and makes more sense to me. When I heard a brief overview of their life story I was shocked because of everything that happened in their lives.

My grandparents grew up in two different places in the country of Mexico. One lived in Mazatlan and the other in Leon. My grandparents met and moved to Mexicali Mexico just miles away from the border. When they were young my grandma smoked and drank a little but my grandpa just drank on a normal basis. In the year 1959 that’s when their lives changed and 50 years later so did mine. They found the Lord and immigrated to Lincoln Heights in Los Angeles from Mexicali Mexico. Then their lives’ went from doing nothing to making their lives mean something and change a lot of other people’s lives.

After they found the Lord they went to go spread it with other churches around the United States and around the world. And they took all five of their kids to sing songs in Spanish that they made which are stories in the bible. In total there are three generations in the Murillo family. My grandparents were the first, the second was all their kids, and the third was with my sisters, my brother, and my mom and dad. When we went on vacation we did what my grandparents did which is sharing the word of God. Now it is my responsibility to keep this tradition going and make a fourth generation with my future family.

They showed me never to give up in life and you can do what ever you want in life because. It says in Mark 9:23 “If you can, said Jesus, everything is possible for him who believes,” with the Lord everything is possible. They showed me by changing their whole life around and did what they wanted to do in life. I have set the bar higher for me to do anything I want to do to complete my life and to keep the tradition going with the fourth generation of the Murillo Family.

Photo Techniques

1. Rule of Thirds

I think I could use the rule of thirds just like in this picture because in this picture it has her eyes are like right on one of the lines and I would like to try and portray that so it looks cool with my head on one side of the picture.

2. Backlighting

I think this would make my picture look really unique and make it stand out if I take a picture using backlighting. I could do something like this picture to make it look cool.

3. Reflection

I think this would look really cool especially if I took one and my reflection was on water that was still. I know water is like never still but to get it as still as this picture would look so cool.

American Icon Ideas

1. Roberto Clemente was a very good man not just on the baseball field but off. "Growing up in Puerto Rico we got to learn a lot about his character, it was obvious that not only was he one of the greatest players, but a great human being as well." Bernie Williams, New York Yankees. "Clemente is a great hero for all Latin players especially Puerto Ricans." "Not only was he one of the best baseball players ever, but he was a great human being as well." Juan Gonzalez, Texas Rangers. Clemente finished his career with a .317 avg. with 3,000 hits and 240 homeruns, won the MVP in 1966 and was the first ever Latino in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

On December 31,1972 he decided to personally help Nicaragua out because of the tornado that stuck there. Him and four of his other friends were fling in a small air plane with food and supplies to bring to Nicaragua but it never made it there. It crashed in to Caribbean sea. They found 5 people dead but never found Roberto's body. it was a tremendous loss to everybody.

In 1973 commissioner Bowie Kuhn honored Roberto by making a "Roberto Clemente Award." the award represents the person who has the biggest sportsmanship and community activism which is selected each year. "He was so very great a man, as a leader and humanitarian, so very great an inspiration to the young and to all in baseball, especially to the proud people of his homeland, Puerto Rico." Bowie Kuhn

Why did Roberto Clemente decide and help a county that had no significance in his life?

Roberto is very important to me any several ways. He would help out a lot of people and was recognized as a good human being with charities and in Nicaragua. He also was arguably the best right fielder of all time. i look up to him as an inspiration to do the best i can in baseball.

2.For my grandparents before they got saved very little was important to them. But after that they realized that they needed God. Then everything was important like all their grandkids, family and friends. Everything that is important to them really changed their lives around.

My grandparents have always been important to me. When I herd both of their life stories I was shocked and surprised everything worked out in the end. They had to go through a lot of struggles in their life. One was they were addicted to a lot of drugs and could not stop them. But then the Lord came in to their life and changed it all. Then they had 3 kids when they moved out of TJ over 40 yrs ago. When they moved they had 2 more kids and started to preach the word of God all around the United States and still to this point.

For my own question how and when did your lives change?

3. Pastor Mike Macintosh represents a lot to me. He shows that he knows the bible a lot and can preach it to everybody so they can take a deep understanding of what he reads.

Pastor Mike Macintosh is a huge icon all around the world. He goes around the world on trips and to preach at churches and events all over the world. But his main place is at Horizon Christian Fellowship. Almost every Sunday he would preach and show the gospel and his complete understand of the word. The gym would always be filled for the 1st and the 2nd service. He would make sure that everyone that goes to service understands what he says and that they know what the Lord is going to do in their lives each day.

What made you want to be come a pastor?
