Newspapers & MSB

What lessons did you learn from the Industrialization Newspaper that you carry forward into the MSB project?

I learned a lot from this newspaper project that will really help me for the MSB project. One thing that I learned is time management. I did not use all the time we had wisely and all the resources that we were able to use. Resulting that my article was not good and could be a lot better and our group had to rush at the end to get everything done on time. Ask questions. I learned that I need to ask questions. If I were to ask questions my article and final newspaper would have been a lot better.

Write a reflective piece in which you identify specific things, content, skills, or habits that you will address in MSB as a response to your experience with the newspaper project.
The one big skill i brought to my group had to be organize the actual newspaper to make it look professional. So I will try my best to make sure that my final product for MSB is organized and professional.

MSB people, groups & orgs!

1. San Diego branch of Coast keeperI think I would want to interview someone from Coast keeper because i think they have good information to help me on my topic. I read their mission and part of it is how they want to have clean water and a healthy coastal ecosystem.
2.Grinning PlanetI think from Grinning Planet i could interview people there and about all the information they have on their website and everything they know about pollution because they are based on pollution effects. it could be good information so i can have lots of good facts.
3.Heal the BayI think Heal the Bay would have lots of good information on pollution in the ocean and nearby bays. So if I interviewed someone there i could get lots of facts from water close to my house.

MSB comments, ideas, plans, critiques and more!

From Magda's blog post I realized that i my idea to go for pollution focusing more on animals in general if i do a documentary. if I create a photo essay Magda's idea of how she wants it to look is kinda of like how I would like it with good color and make it look nice.

From Akari's blog I learned that i could maybe find a topic so I can compare a good with a bad inside of a subject. It made me think that my documentary could be a stronger idea and prove more things.

From Brent's blog i though that i could so pros and cons and how it can effect the community. I though it would be a good idea to get how it effect not just animals but the community.

Possible MSB Products

Interesting Ideas
-One idea that i have for this project could be a documentary.
-My second idea would be a picture essay.

1. Write a sentence describing the final product (such as, "A documentary video that addresses the question....")

- A video that talks about the pollution and how animals are getting effected by it.

-I could show a picture of pollution and how it effects animals, and for my essay can be about how the animals are getting effected by pollution.

2. Post an example of a professional or other high-level product that could serve as a basis for your work.

3. List three specific ideas that you can take from your example to lead you to a high quality product. Write specifically how you will apply these ideas to your work here. Be as clear, exact & specific as you can!

-Tone of voice
-Meeingfull
-Shocking facts

-This picture had a deep meaning in it showing all the fish that are dead.
-Show a lot of my point
- Make the point stand out

MSB Questions & Resources

1. Main Question
Are there anyways to keep the animals in the ocean protected from the sewage water that goes into the beaches?

2. Subquestions

-How is the water getting to the animals?
-How much pollution is getting into the ocean that is effecting animals?
-What animals are most endangered?

3. Resources

4. Ideas From Research

The video that I found had a lot of important information from the pictures and also the narrator that I can use.
The first website had lots of information on chemicals and also pollution.
HTB has a lot of information that I can use from pollution to animals.
It had a brief overview of pollution and animals.

Industrializations and Coastal Environments

Industrializations and Coastal Environments

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is issuing a final rule to ensure that safe and reliable drinking water is provided to aircraft passengers and crew......

1. What is the issue, controversy or event in the story? What are the basic facts?
the EPA is issuing that the drinking wanter for the passengers on the aircrafts would get safe, and reliable water to drink. It also provides the protections through coliform sampling, public notifications, and monitoring and operator training.

2. What information is missing from the story?
I think the information that is missing in the story is the big reason why they want to make this big movement to make the drinking water for aircraft passengers reliable and safe. Everyone wants safe and reliable water but what is the main reason why they decided to do this?

3. What would be your next steps if you were creating a follow up to this story?
I would try and look on their website or on google to find out the reason why they are deciding to make a big step to do this.

The War is Still Going on

The War is Still Going On

“They say that war ended a long time ago. But around here it’s like it’s still going on.” Says David Westerman. The war is still going on in Kentucky and throughout the South because of the history of your family is the way you are viewed. Where your family worked, how they look and what they practiced reflects on you. In Guthrie Kentucky there were no public parks for kids to play at or pools to swim in; so local kids paid two dollars to swim at the motel. Two summers ago a problem occurred at the motel. Several black kids paid their two dollars to go swim in the pool. “It was like we sent an electrical charge through the water,” She said. As soon as the black kids jumped in, all the white kids got out. The whites demanded that Eskridge to tell the black kids to get out and leave. Her response was “kiss my grits,” She did not want to discriminate against the black or white people. She just wanted to be fair to everyone that was there.

Some former confederate soldiers also known as the Klu Klux Klan dressed up in camouflage clothes stood in main points around the square handing out propaganda flyers to recruit them. When propaganda started way back in 1622 with pope Gregory XV it has influenced many people in the past and still has changed their ways. The Ku Klux Klan handed around 750 propaganda flyers to join them but when they tried to convince people to join the KKK it did not work out well by only getting 10 people to join.

Michael and Hannah Westerman just wanted their first peaceful night since the birth of their twins five weeks before. Michael had planned to buy Hannah a nice dress before going out to dinner in Nashville, Tennessee, which is one hour south of Guthrie. They stopped to get gas at a convenience store called Janie’s Market on Guthrie’s main street. While the gas was pumping Michaels truck caught the eye of four black teenagers who were parked in their car not far away. The big red Chevy pickup was not hard to miss, especially when there was a big rebel flag flapping from a pole in the trucks bed. Michael just wanted to have the flag and rebel flag plate. Some people around the town interpret the confederate flag creates white racist. “Let’s go whip that dude,” he told his friends speeding to catch up with Micheals speedy Chevy. Because of the tinted windows the four black teenagers were not able to see that it was their former neighbor and classmate Michael Westeman was in the car. Freddie unjammed the gun and aimed, then shot a couple bullets. Hannah did not hear anything but just heard Michael moan, “Oh my God, they shot me.” Hannah grabbed the wheel and hurried to the emergency room back in Kentucky. But by the time they got there he was in shock. The black teenagers just assumed that since there was a confederate flag that they need to show them not to wave it around her. Instead they kill their innocent friend. It was during Martin Luther King weekend so they took it more in offence. The small wars are still happening between different races.

The war has ended but it still going on. After the civil war the KKK, the white league, and the red shirts keep the war on going. The carpetbaggers moved to the south during reconstruction era. They formed scalawags that supported reconstruction. The carpetbaggers tricked the African American people to fill out forms for jobs when they were actually getting all of their information about them. With that then the KKK would go to their house and burn crosses, and other things at their house.
